I waited a bit to make this video because I wasn't sure how much impact this would have on Youtube. Now that the updates have actually hit Youtube, I can't believe how much this is going to change how Youtube functions. This is the biggest story in Youtube News.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) takes measures to stop children from being advertised to on Youtube. The result is the potential demonetization of every Youtube video made for kids on the platform. Prior to the COPPA act, Youtube videos made for kids often got the highest advertising rates because of the high conversion kids would have on ads. (They tell their parents to buy the toys for them.)
A ton of people made millions off of Youtube Kids and now that's no longer possible. I'm interested in seeing the implication of what will happen to Youtube Kids and the future of the platform. This also might have enormous implications on Twitch when it comes across.
