2Contra is a run and gun video game developed and published by Konami in 1987. It was originally released as a coin-operated arcade game, and later ported to various home platforms, such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, the MSX2, and the Commodore 64. The game is set in the year 2633, where two commandos, Bill and Lance, must stop a terrorist organization called Red Falcon from taking over the world. The game features eight stages of fast-paced action, where the player can shoot in eight directions, jump, dodge, and collect different weapons. The game is also known for its high difficulty and its famous cheat code that grants 30 lives. Contra is one of the most popular and influential games of its genre, and has spawned several sequels and spin-offs.
