This was a typical side scrolling 2d shooter of the 1980s, but it was a classic. This game was a hit, and it was a very successful franchise for Konami,. One thing that really stands out in Contra are the graphics, and the game play is unique in that it has more than one perspective. You can be fighting a 2d side scrolling battle, and you can also be playing in a 3d maze like environment.

The title of the game is uniquely 1980s, because we had the Iran-Contra affair in the mid 1980s. The theme of the game is like Predator and Aliens which were movies released in 1987, and 1986 respectively. The aliens in Contra have skulls shaped, like the aliens in the movie Aliens. At the same time, you have an environment which is like Predator.

Contra was released into many different system formats, and the most successful of these would be the NES version. I saw the other versions of this game in different systems, like the Amiga 500, and the C64; those versions weren't that great. The NES was much closer to the arcade version, but the arcade version was the best. In 2013, they released a upgraded version of this game called Contra Evolution Revolution. The graphics are much better, but the theme of the game is true to the original. You can compare it to Bionic Commando Rearmed which was another release of the NES classic Bionic Command released in 1987.

I remember playing this game when I was a child at the arcades, I put in a lot of quarters into it. The game wasn't amazingly difficult, but it did have a limited amount of continues. All in all, I loved this game when I was a child, and I wish they make more remakes of old retro games with updated graphics in the future. If you never played games like this in the 1980s, I recommend you try them. You will get a feeling of how much technology changed in the past 28 years and this will help you appreciate the technology you have today.
