Contra is the first game I speedran. I had been playing it on and off since I unearthed my NES earlier that year, and it didn't take me long to get through deathless. There was no real reason for me to keep playing the game or any motivation to care how fast I could finish it, and yet somehow I became obsessed with doing just that. Back in 2007 I had no idea there even was a speedrun community. This run ended up being half a second faster than Ray Cullen's WR run that was on SDA. However, little did I know that the great Freddy Anderson had already beaten that time (and this) just months before. Still it wasn't bad for a first attempt at speedrunning. Hope you enjoy the webcam-pointed-at-TV setup. That's how stuff got done back in the day.
It's hard to believe that I've been speedrunning for over 7 years now.
