The utilization of AI is rapidly advancing in the telecommunications research. \nO-RAN RIC and AI RAN Alliance are two major such activities as promoted by industries. \n\nIn Japan, major telecommunication companies are putting forth R&D of AI and communications. \nRakuten and NTT DOCOMO are cooperating in O-RAN RIC and Softbank is promoting AI-RAN Alliance, and KDDI has led national projects on AI funded by Ministries. \n\nIn academia, RISING (a cross-sectional research group on superintelligence networking) has been launched in 2019 and is working on the academic science of AI integrated telecommunications. AI/ML Challenge in ITU has been promoted by RISING community. \n\nWe expect a lot of use cases of AI/ML applied in telecommunications such as \nFault prediction, fault detection, and automatic repair \nTraffic prediction and control \nCommunication demand prediction for low power consumption \nFrequency dynamic allocation \nEdge AI computing (sharing computing resources between mobile communication and AI inference functions) \nAI optimization of wireless layer advanced signal processing (channel estimation, signal interpolation, etc.) \nInter-Cell Coordination (distributed MIMO, CA, etc.) \nAI-based modulation and demodulation (AI-Native Air-Interface) \nFusion of communications and sensing (JCAS) \nDynamic Spectrum Sharing. \n\nIn this presentation, we will overview the global trend in Convergence of AI and Telecommunications Technologies. \nAlso we introduce our research activities at the University of Tokyo and discuss the importance of international standardization efforts and industry academia collaborations in this new scientific field. \n\nThe AI for Good Global Summit is the leading action-oriented United Nations platform promoting AI to advance health, climate, gender, inclusive prosperity, sustainable infrastructure, and other global development priorities. AI for Good is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) – the UN specialized agency for information and communication technology – in partnership with 40 UN sister agencies and co-convened with the government of Switzerland.\n\nJoin the Neural Network!\nπŸ‘‰ https://aiforgood.itu.int/neural-network/\nThe AI for Good networking community platform powered by AI. \nDesigned to help users build connections with innovators and experts, link innovative ideas with social impact opportunities, and bring the community together to advance the SDGs using AI.\n\nπŸ”΄ Watch the latest #AIforGood videos!\n\n\nπŸ“© Stay updated and join our weekly AI for Good newsletter:\nhttp://eepurl.com/gI2kJ5\n\nπŸ—ž Check out the latest AI for Good news:\nhttps://aiforgood.itu.int/newsroom/\n\nπŸ“± Explore the AI for Good blog:\nhttps://aiforgood.itu.int/ai-for-good-blog/\n\n🌎 Connect on our social media:\nWebsite: https://aiforgood.itu.int/\nTwitter: https://twitter.com/AIforGood\nLinkedIn Page: https://www.linkedin.com/company/26511907 \nLinkedIn Group: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8567748 \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/aiforgood \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/AIforGood\n\nDisclaimer:\nThe views and opinions expressed are those of the panelists and do not reflect the official policy of the ITU.
