"It's the economy, stupid" has been the political truth for decades. But the vote for Brexit and wide support for Corbyn suggest that many would sacrifice growth for social change. Has the economy become less important to us? Are we turning to broader, more socially radical political goals? Or is the weakness of the economy since 2008 the very reason for the shift away from the centre ground?
Richard Burgon: Richard Burgon MP (born 19 September 1980) is a British Labour Party politician and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leeds East. He is also the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and Shadow Lord Chancellor.He was appointed as Shadow Economic Secretary to the Treasury (City Minister) in September 2015 by new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Burgon was promoted to Shadow Justice Secretary in June 2016 following the organised mass resignations in protest against the leadership of Corbyn.
