Great graphics, great music, excellent gameplay, and RAINBOW COLOURS EVERYWHERE! In this game you are visually and auditorially stimulated by A LOT OF CARTOON STUFF, which is awesome. Coryoon is a great Pc Engine hidden gem, and a technical prequel to games like Air Zonk! The game takes its title by the portmanteu of Child and Dragon (dragoon?). Despite the cute appearance it's a very strong shoot em up, or better a great example of the everlasting cute'em up subgenre. The music is so cool, and there's a reason for that. Hishashi Matsushita and Daisuke Morishima are behind the musical scores. And that's not enough: Coryoon programmer Yuuichi Ochiai would later on move to Raizing and work on that little pretty (nasty) thing called Battle Garegga. This game's got a GREAT pedigree.
Point of the game is: there are a lot of projectiles, and you are expected to dodge them while coping with fruit collection (points =survivability) and positioning. The level design is a 10 in my book, with cool sheananigans and fast scrolling backgrounds with multiple parallaxes.
On your first playthrough you might feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of STUFF around. But stick to fruit and dodge, and you'll rack up a lot of lives (i went over 9 couple times in this 1CC, and I wasn't really trying to score).
Try this game, you will thank me.
As usual, this one (as all my playthroughs) use NO savestates. In my opinion, playing this way yields a footage more attuned to game and level design than save-state powered runs. When i feel like editing videos, i'll do a review, not a playthrough.
