Following the success of 1989 arcade classic Final Fight, Capcom graced in 1993 the Famicom and USA NES market with Mighty Final Fight, a chibi rendition of the happening in Metro City. This game is crisp and quirky, and plays so smoothly.
It came out at the end of 8 bit era gaming, and it shows: it's masterfully crafted, and push the Famicom potential to 11. All in all, it's a great beat'em up for a console that sorely needed releases of this genre.
There are a few interesting touches here and there. There's a progression system (albeit simpler than Kunio Kun's one, more like Double Dragon) that allows unlocking more moves for your character. The music is great and the graphic is good. As you can see from footage, there are a lot of flashing sprites, a trick often employed by Capcom and others, in order to show a lot of stuff on screen. On CRT, is not so evident as it is on our modern monitors.
The gameplay is quick and responsive, although there are a couple of quirky fights (SODOM). The game require some practice, but can be beaten without too much sweat. All in all, this is a very good game and I recommend it to any retrogamer or retrostreamer.
As usual, this one (as all my playthroughs) use NO savestates. In my opinion, playing this way yields a footage more attuned to game and level design than save-state powered runs. When i feel like editing videos, i'll do a review, not a playthrough.
KrzysioCart recorded on Famicom , with Retrotink2x and Avermedia Live Mini. Played on CRT with the original Famicom attached controller.
