This game is a remake of Counter-Strike on the Source engine, utilizing said engine's techonological advancements. This game was initially bundled with copies of Half-Life 2 before getting a standalone release, along with Half-Life: Source. In addition, the game was made available to play before the others, technically making this the first Source game to be released (although unfinished). Half-Life 2 was pre-loaded at the time, meaning that players could download the game files before release and play it immediately on launch day.

The game plays the same as the original; Counter-Terrorists vs. Terrorists. Kill the other team, rescue the hostages, plant or defuse the bomb. Assasination and Escape modes are no longer included, and so is the tactical shield. In addition, all ammo used by its weapon is automatically acquired upon purchase of the weapon or at the start of a new round. Eventually an update was released in collaboration with Hidden Path Entertainment, which adds new features like a win panel displaying the winning team and MVP, along with a fun fact that happened in the round. There is also a domination and revenge system like that of Team Fortress 2's, and player stats and achievements, all of which are viewed in the same dialog which displays when the achievements button in the menu is pressed, therefore making this dialog stand out from the achievements window in other Source games. (Achievements and player stats in TF2 are viewed separately.) Another feature backported from TF2 is the freezecam, which zooms in on the player who killed them upon death. Some of these features can be toggled by options or console commands. All of these new features would eventually be used again in the successor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with (almost) all of the same achievements being there.

This video shows me going around the hostage rescue maps. One of the maps is new to this game, while the others are remakes of the classic maps. This time, I alternate between playing with and without bots.
