short highlight of bls basic life support workshop conducted in our medical college for around 200 medical students , basic highlights of the sessions was
how to save lives during emergency
first aid and response for cardiac arrest patient ,
basic life support in and outside hospital
how to give CPR cardio pulmonary resuscitation to unconscious patient
, as recommended by AHA ( American heart association ) steps of bls / CPR are
• safe scene
• check patient responsiveness
• ask for help , call 911
• check breathing and cartoid pulse for 10 sec
• start CAB ( compressions , airway , breathing )
• 2 inch deep compressions in 30 press and 2 breaths with 5 cycles in 2 minutes
• secure airway by manaeuvers of head tilt chin lift or jaw thrust
• use bag mask for breathing
• use automated AED and follow it's instructions till shock
• continue CPR until patient revives or tired or expire
• Shockable rhythms are VT and VF fibrillation
• Non Shockable rhythms are Pulseless activity and asystole
• 5 T and 5 H of causes of cardiac arrest
• lidocaine and amiodarone injections are given later
