Testing out the Dot vs X CPU thermal paste patterns with plexiglass that shows how the thermal paste spreads underneath the CPU cooler. Which thermal paste pattern is the best? See for yourself. The winner is the X.

The CPU tested is the Intel Core i5 13600K, but I expect this pattern of paste spreading to be similar on any CPU. Also note that due to the entropy from the constant pressure and high temperatures, ot is possible that even the circle pattern will eventually cover the entire CPU.

Lesson learned: both work great, but don't use too mucu thermal paste as it might overflow beyond the CPU lid.
