Crash Bandicoot 2 Speedrun - Any% Game Over Abuse (45:29) by Riko
This is a speedrun of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back for the PlayStation, completed in 45 minutes and 29 seconds.
The category of this run is "Any% Game Over Abuse," which means I simply have to collect all 25 Crystals and defeat Cortex. Crash 2 has a glitch known as the Game Over abuse, in which collecting a Crystal and then getting a Game Over in the level saves the Crystal in your inventory, and completing any other level will reward you with all Crystals saved in the inventory; this effectively lets you cut several levels down by half.
This run was done on an NTSC region PlayStation 2. The fastest version of Crash 2 is the PAL version, but I do not have a PAL PS2 console so I was forced to use NTSC. I have the option to emulate the PAL verison, but PS2 has an option called Fast Disk Speed, which significantly reduces loading times of PS1 games; emulation doesn't have this option, and as a result I was getting slower times despite using the faster PAL version.
This is currently the fastest NTSC GO Abuse record on Speedrun.com, and the 12th fastest GO Abuse record overall on the site. However, it is NOT the fastest NTSC record in general, since Back has a run that's 42:17, which can be found here: http://www.twitch.tv/back/v/47671358.
