This is a speed run of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped for the PlayStation, completed in 1 hour, 48 seconds using a PSP-3000.

The category of this run is "Any%," which means I simply have to collect all 25 Crystals and defeat Cortex.

This was my first successful speed run attempt for Crash 3, as I normally do Crash 2. My LiveSplits do show times for a previous run, however this run contained several game overs, and therefore I do not count it.

Quick run down of a couple of the main techniques, as speedrunning this game is actually quite different than it's predecessor:

*Neutral Slide Jump (NSJ): By sliding, letting go of the directional input, and then jumping, Crash maintains all of the speed of the slide into a high jump. This is similar in execution to the Neutral Slide Spin (NSS) from Crash 2, which does not exist in this game. Likewise, the NSJ does not exist in Crash 2.

*Mask Abuse: In Crash 2, getting invincibility through triple Aku Aku masks actually slows down the NSS. In Crash 3, the exact opposite occurs; gaining invincibility tremendously SPEEDS UP the NSJ, therefore it is extremely desirable to keep as many masks as possible at any time. A lot of time lost in Crash 3 actually comes from accidentally getting hit, which can be as bad as dying at times.

*Glitched High Jump: By spinning out of a crouching high jump, you gain more height and distance. Doesn't come up quite as often as in Crash 2, but still helpful.

*NTSC Version: Among other things, Crash runs faster and jumps higher in the European (PAL) version than in the North American (NTSC) version. While this is great in Crash 2, it isn't so great in Crash 3; all of your speed comes from sliding on the ground, and since NSJ sends you airborne, it is preferable to have the lower jump to land sooner.

*Fast Disk Speed (FDS): PlayStation 2's and PSP's have the option of "Fast Disk Speed", which spins PS1 disks at faster speed (or in the case of the PSP, emulates such a task), significantly cutting down loading times. Because I don't have the proper tech to record gameplay on my PS2, I have opted to use my PSP with Custom Firmware in order to output the video to my computer with RemoteJoyLite in order to record the run and utilize FDS.
