Having finally gotten a chance to play this game, let me get right into the review.

"Crash Bandicoot 4: It's Not About Time, But Level Design"

This game...first off, is highly polished. I'l give it that. The developers really did a phenomenal job at illustrating Crash along with the other characters while keeping true to the N. Sane Trilogy. However, we all know most players aren't here for the story. They're here for the gameplay, and that's exactly where this game, in my opinion, starts to fall apart.

I don't know if Toys for Bob just saw the success of Stormy Ascent from the trilogy and wanted to make a game around it, however, I can 100% say with confidence I have no intention of playing this game again. I think what's getting lost here is that Stormy Ascent was so highly praised because it was mainly one level, and it was optional at that. It was never needed to be finished to complete the main storyline. This game, however, decides to make EVERY level the same as that one. And not only does it make for a frustrating experience, but one that I couldn't enjoy, nor engage with like I did in the original trilogy.

+ (Positives)

+ Graphics
+ 60FPS
+ Haptic feedback
+ Better hit box than the N. Sane Trilogy
+ Ambitious ideas regarding the layout of levels
+ Gorgeous color palettes within levels

- (Negatives)

- Level design
- Levels are far too long
- Levels contain way too many boxes
- Hidden boxes that you need to watch videos in order to find
- Difficulty regarding the entire game

Honestly, all of the negatives fall under the same category and one I want to hammer home about this game: level design. This is the same issue that I had with Yooka-Laylee and the only reason I finished this game is because I committed to it. Toys for Bob decided to make every level like Stormy Ascent and honestly, less is more in a game like this.

There were times when boxes would be placed in super inconvenient locations without rhyme-or-reason, boxes being totally hidden that you can't find without watching videos and levels that drag on for way too long. Pretty much every dimension in this game suffers from all of these issues.

This isn't a bad game. Let me make that clear. It's a badly designed platform game. There's a difference. What Toys for Bob created was a highly polished title, however, it falls extremely short in the one area it should've succeeded -- and that was platforming. It's neither fun, nor exciting, but rather tedious and filled with a sense of labor. Even though the original trilogy had difficulty, the levels were designed in a way to actually make you want to continue. This game, however, does none of that. After making it a 1/3 through each level, I kept thinking to myself, "I can't wait to be done with this."

I really hope if there's another crash game, they go back to the design of the originals. I know Toys for Bob can do this series justice, as they did with the Spyro trilogy which was a phenomenal remake in all regards. However, this installment of Crash completely misses the mark for me. I have no intention of going back to try and complete it, as I know it's near impossible and not worth my time.

Because it's not about time, but level design.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - 7/10
Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time on PS5 - 10/10 (Best looking game in the series and the 60FPS really enhances the gameplay compared to the original trilogy, along with the haptic feedback)

Still love Toys for Bob, just...this one didn't do it for me. Sorry guys:/
