Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex - Level 17: Droid Void (Platinum Relic)
The fails and repeats I do at the start of this level represent only a fraction of what my Time Trial runs have been like in this game this whole time. I actually restarted more times than this and I wanted to cut down on how many times I showed that.
In this Crash game, there's an oversight that the developers likely didn't intend for you to discover.
Bottomless pits and similar hazards, such as deep water, behave more like kill floors. You instantly die/drown when you drop into them deep enough (barring the 1-second limit in Jungle Rumble).
However, if you have an Aku Aku mask or two, and then get hit, you'll be invincible for a couple of seconds. This invinciblity is capable of bypassing what should otherwise be an instant death for the bandicoots, allowing Crash to float on his feet before he plummets, and allowing Coco to tread water before she drowns.
Now... bring a mask to a Time Trial in a level that has hangbars, like this one, allow yourself to get hit by a nearby enemy, then purposely drop yourself to the invisible floor and Crash Dash your way further! But make sure you grab the hangbars again or reach solid ground, or this will be all for nothing! Thank goodness Aku Aku gets kept if you Restart Trial!
But really, if they didn't slow down the speed of which Crash uses those hangbars, we wouldn't have to do this. But then again, if that did happen, the developers would likely RAISE the Relic records to compensate.
Oh, game balance...
