Crash Team Racing: Adventure Part 1: Prologue & Start
28After making three great Crash Bandicoot games, this would be Naughty Dog’s final game for the franchise before moving onto Jak & Daxter. This spinoff is also their sendoff: An accumulation all nearly all that they put into this series. I used to play this religiously, and I can’t wait to show you all how I tended to split this game in half.
I’m only focusing on the Adventure mode for now, though. To see how it really starts, do what you did with Crash 1, and just wait at the title screen.
After at least three adventures, the heroes and villains of Crash Bandicoot decided to turn their conflict into a friendly kart-racing competition. However, they were not prepared for this to catch the attention of an alien visitor...
Enter Nitros Oxide, who claims to be the fastest racer of the entire galaxy. He has threatened Earth’s inhabitants of turning the planet into a giant parking lot, and then make them all his slaves!
The only way to stop him is for someone to prove their merit to him, and beat him in a race in space!
(At least) 8 familiar faces took the call and prepared their karts for a race for their fate.
- Coco uses her laptop to juice up her kart. She also likely made Pura’s kart.
- Tiny fixes up his kart... by smashing it with a hammer.
- Polar learns to drive from a book... but he should really learn to read, first...
- Dingodile tweaks up his kart, but he overcooks it and roasts his face.
- Cortex uses a machine to supercharge his kart. After all, to him, there’s only room for ONE world conqueror!
And then there’s Crash. He’s just taking a nap, likely waiting to jump in his kart when it’s time to race. He’ll need that nap!

In this game, you start out with 8 racers, but you will unlock more later. The first 8, however, are the only ones you'll ever be able to choose from for Adventure Mode.
For this playthrough, I'll use Crash. If not him, I'd usually go for Coco. Every character has stats in Top Speed, Acceleration, and Turning. Crash is well-rounded in all three stats and has this in common with Cortex.
Like in Diddy Kong Racing, this game's Adventure Mode takes place in different hub maps that contain your races. As soon as you start this mode, and after finishing a race, you'll always get a hint from a mask. Good guys get Aku Aku, and bad guys get Uka Uka. Use all of their shared tips to learn how to play this game to its limits!
The main goal of Adventure Mode is to win 1st place in every race, and collect 16 Trophies. For every 4 you win on a map, you to race the map's boss. Beat that boss to earn a Key, which allows you into more Adventure Maps and continue onto winning more Trophies!

My main goal for this playthrough to collect EVERYTHING that I can out of this mode! For now, I'm focusing only on the Trophies, and I'll worry about everything else once I'd beaten Oxide and viewed the credits.
