7This game is like Mario Kart on steriods pretty much, since you can do so much more it feels like. It plays similar to your standard kart games, you hold down a button to move forward, you race on linear maps, and collect boxes that contain traps or weapons to hurt your enemies. You can also use turbo boost to gain speed, which is an advancement over most kart games.
For single player, you go through various worlds attempting to get first place on every map in the world, and at the end of each world after you gain the first prize trophy, you get to face the end boss, who you have to beat. The single player isn't quite as fun as the multiplayer modes, which consist of simple races, battle arenas and such.
You can also try to beat certain times in these races to get relics. The single player is pretty short though and gets old fast. You will want to play the extra modes after you beat the single player story to unlock new characters. This game works best with friends in my opinion, although the AI isn't too bad and its good practice.
Plus some of the bosses are fun to race against since they typically spam their attacks on you. The weapons mainly consist of things like tracking missiles, dropping tnt/nitro behind you to set up a trap, bombs, and such, although a few cool unique ones like hitting everyone in front of you or zapping everyone. Its a very well rounded kart game and all the maps feel diverse and unique as well as the occasional traps/path blockers.
The graphics are crash style, making the game look very smooth and clear along with awesome animations. The soundtrack is very crashlike along with the voice actors.
The replay is really great if you have friends to play with since you can set up races and such. This game doesn't get old fast unless you are continuously playing single player. The single player of this game is pretty strong though, but can get boring/frustrating and racing AI gets old after a while. As a kart game, Crash is the trademark racing game for PS1 and one of the funnest I've played.
