In Elite Dangerous, unclassified artefacts are a new type of commodity that can be obtained from Thargoid bases. They are created by combining three Guardian relics at a Thargoid device. Unclassified artefacts are currently being researched by Ishmael Palin and Ram Tah, and they are both willing to pay a high price for them. Aegis’s prototype Thargoid pulse neutralisers have succeeded in allowing transit through the energy surge at the centre of a Maelstrom. The method used to protect the probes was discovered through research on unclassified relics recovered from Thargoid surface sites. These alien artefacts were vital to the devices’ development. Initial research conducted by Ram Tah and Professor Palin proved that when receiving a modulated electrical charge, the unclassified relics emitted an energy field on similar frequencies to the Maelstrom’s pulse.”

“Unfortunately, broadcasts from the probes were lost shortly afterwards. It hasn’t been possible to verify what happened to them at this stage. We will repeat this experiment with other Maelstroms, but we believe that only skilled human pilots will be able to uncover what awaits within.”

Aden Tanner, who is supporting Aegis as a freelance tactical specialist, provided a supplemental report:

“My team has been conducting secondary tests with the new module installed on a manned vessel. I can confirm that when in combat against Thargoid interceptors, it protects against ship system disruption in a similar way to the existing shutdown field neutraliser. But its weight and power draw are both greater, meaning that the new module is best suited to Maelstrom exploration.”

To get unclassified artefacts, you will need to:

Find a Thargoid base.
Equip your ship with an anti-corrosive cargo rack.
Bring three Guardian relics with you.
Land your ship at the Thargoid base and deploy your SRV.
Find the Thargoid device.
Place the three Guardian relics in the Thargoid device.
The Thargoid device will create an unclassified artefact.
Collect the unclassified artefact and return to your ship.
Once you have obtained unclassified artefacts, you can sell them to Ishmael Palin or Ram Tah for a profit. You can also use them to research new technologies and unlock new modules.

Here are some additional tips for getting unclassified artefacts:

Be careful when approaching a Thargoid base. Thargoid ships may be patrolling the area.
If you are attacked by a Thargoid ship, try to escape. Thargoid ships are very powerful and can easily destroy your ship.
If you are killed while carrying unclassified artefacts, they will be lost.
Be sure to stock up on supplies before you go to a Thargoid base. You may need to repair your ship or SRV if you are attacked.
