Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
As one of the most iconic and technically proficient games on the Commodore 64, Creatures holds a special place in the hearts of C64 fans. Despite being too difficult for its own good, the adventures of Clyde Radcliffe and his fellow fuzzies, not to mention the grizzly torture chamber sections, made for one of the best smash hits on the ol' breadbin.

Fast forward another three three years, and Thalamus dusts Clyde off for his first and only 16-bit outing. The Amiga version of Creatures is principally identical to the C64, with the exception that all the artwork and audio has been overhauled; this is the exactly the same game as before, but it just looks prettier.

It's actually an extremely capable conversion. The presentation is exceptionally slick, with the graphics deserving a special mention. The clever use of colour and highlights gives the main Clyde sprite a real sense of solidity, and the general attention to detail in all of the background art, sprites and animation is to be commended.

I would have been equally complimentary about the music if it hadn't been for the inclusion of that stupid popping sound whenever Clyde shoots. It's a hugely irritating and inappropriate sound to begin with, and it causes the music in one of the four audio channels to cut out. Mike Bartlett's music is actually quite good, but the constant popping means you'll never get to fully appreciate, and is one of those occasions where the game should have been restricted to sound OR music, not both.
