Generative AI has great potential to raise global growth that’s remained at historically low levels since the pandemic. However, if not managed carefully, there is a risk that GenAI could aggravate and prolong the next economic downturn by causing large-scale disruptions in labor markets, in financial markets, and in supply chains. Policy actions, taken now, can help mitigate some of these risks.
