CrossfireX is a first-person shooter released by Xbox Game Studios on February 10th, 2022 exclusively for Xbox One and Xbox Series. It is a modernized adaptation of the popular PC shooter Crossfire, which was first released in South Korea in 2007. Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment worked on the game's single-player campaign, while South Korean studio Smilegate took on the development of the free-to-play multiplayer mode.
CrossfireX is a first-person shooter and a console-focused remaster of Crossfire with a new graphics engine. Free-to-play multiplayer is similar to the Counter-Strike series of games, in which two opposing teams representing two hostile private military factions compete in game modes to complete objectives. In Classic mode, the attacking team tries to plant a bomb while the defending team has to stop it. All players are equipped with standard weapons. Specter mode is a variation of classic mode, although the attacking players are specters equipped only with knives but can remain invisible when not moving. There is also a modern mode in which the two teams must fight to maintain control of two objective points on a map.
The single player mode, which cannot be accessed for free, consists of several operations. Each of these spans multiple episodes, with two operations available at launch. The plot explores a global conflict between the Black List and Global Risk, two private military factions. The campaign has been compared to military shooters like Call of Duty on several occasions.
