Cross Helix/CROSSHELIX is an eroge visual novel, interestingly the only 3D/pre-rendered 3D visual novel System Rose made. It piqued my interest awhile ago due to being a pre-rendered 3D visual novel, that and I love me blu-haired anime girls, so I figured I'd give ripping the soundtrack a shot.
Finding the BGM files were easy, as they're in a BGM folder. However, the music files are .SRT files, I have no idea what a .SRT file is nor have I encountered it before. However, the solution was suprisingly quick to figure out. The extraction method that worked, and this genuinely shocked me... Was to import the raw data of the .SRT files into Audacity.
I've tried this method multiple times in the past for file types that I knew were music, but it always played loud static. However, in this case, it worked... Sort of. The Stereo versions were sped up at 1.5x speed. Additionally, both the Mono and Stereo versions had a bunch of pops.
Still, I looped the tracks once and faded them out to the best of my ability, with some trickier than others.
However, as I finished with the bgm, I got personally curious and decided to try to get the game itself working because why not. I discovered you need to run the setup.exe so the game can have it's own folder in your Programs folder, and run the game's executeable in the HELIX program Programs folder... With the .mds mounted on a virtual disk drive at the same time. And I only found out about it by complete accident during troubleshooting.
Unfortunately, what was a triumph was quickly turned into a soiled victory as I listened to the title screen theme and realized... It's a lower pitch by a big margin compared to how it sounded when imported from the .SRT files. I did some comparing and contrasting and found that even the in-game music was even slower. So, all that work with the BGM prior? Completely for nothing.
So this left me with no choice, I had to play through the game until I unlocked the sound test... And let me tell you, skipping through a Japanese visual novel when you don't know Japanese is an experience. Fortunately, getting the bad ending unlocked it. And better yet, I had song names. :D
Now it was just a matter of recording the audio through Audacity and the result of that is this video. I also tried to auto-click through the entire game in hopes of seeing credits so I could credit the composer(s), but there are unfortunately no credits, even after getting 99% CGs. However, the CGs came in handy for this video, as screenshots for the game don't exist anywhere best I can tell.
On a final note, I am sick of it due to having to listen to it so much and how annoying the experience admittedly was. Will give myself some time before I listen to it again, but the soundtrack itself is great. It mixes casino/sci-fi vibes extremely well, and I'm sad the game has no credits.

I don't make any profit from this video. I don't own this song nor the thumbnail image, they belong to their rightful owners. I'm more than willing to set the video to private if the developers/composer(s) want me to take it down.
