Crystal Castles
Crystal Castles is a video game that was released by Atari in 1983 for arcade machines and later ported to various home computers and consoles, including the Commodore 64.
The Commodore 64 version of Crystal Castles was developed by Atarisoft, a division of Atari that specialized in porting Atari games to other platforms. The game was originally intended to be released on cartridge in 1984, but it was delayed and eventually cancelled due to the video game crash of 1983. However, a prototype of the game was found and preserved by a collector, and it is now available online.
The prototype is similar to the final version that was released by U.S. Gold in 1986, but it has some differences in graphics, sound, and gameplay. For example, the prototype has fewer levels, less animation, and no high score table. The prototype also has a bug that causes the game to crash after the ninth level.
Crystal Castles is considered one of the first arcade games to use 3D graphics and a trackball controller. It is also known for its catchy music and sound effects, which were composed by Peter J. Lipson.
