Competitive matches are automatically recorded. Unfortunately, the rest has to be manually recorded from your point of view.
A lot of you may want to know how to get things into a video format for youtube or things like that. You don't necessarily need this tutorial for that. Instead, use a program like... actually, just read the comments section, since everybody seems to have a personal favourite. I would say FRAPS but I'd get shot down because it's probably uncool, but it's served me well. Once you've done that, you need a program like Sony Vegas to put the video file in to, and to convert to a smaller file-size. It's not nice to try and upload a 4 GB+ video to youtube. I have a tutorial series on Vegas here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfwtcDG7LpxHF2SKDTRqEADrDc5azhb-y
This video, in comparison, shows a sensible way of recording the games you play so that you can then REPLAY those games and record from that using a program like FRAPS. This is mainly down to size- recording a video using a console command is only about 10 MB per hour or what ever, compared with recording a video of it which can be 100,000 MB + per hour.
So yeah, use this method to record all of your games so you don't miss a great clip, then replay the video and record with FRAPS, before putting that video file into something like Sony Vegas.
Hope this clears up one of the internet's great mysteries, which I sadly assumed to be common knowledge. Sorry!
