This encounter, played 100% straight, proves that CR is kind of screwy.
More importantly, that bounded accuracy fails to achieve what it should, and that 5e is reliant on CONTEXT over MECHANICS to justify enemies and their supposed power.
And that prep and circumstance can change a lot. And that some monsters are so one-note they can be foiled with a simple plan.
