Cursory Study of Ukraine's Terrain Environment From Afar: Rolling Open Farm Country (Flat Terrain).
0There is a lot of open country where military personnel have resorted to excavating trenches to hold positions using static types of defenses, interspersed by ongoing offensive operations, with military staff using drones to drop munitions right on top of excavated trenches. The shovel is likely to remain an indispensable tool to the infantry man in certain modern armed conflicts. In a modern armed conflict, trenches are still being excavated to hold defensive lines in exposed open country. Ukraine can likely shift to highly mechanized and highly mobile offensive and take the initiative over static defenses across rolling open terrain where armor (Leopard 2 and M1A2 MBT) enjoys a significant advantage which would become negated once they are near urban centers. In open rolling terrain, if any side ever fails to maintain control of the air space, it could be major liability to persons on the ground. Under International Law cluster munitions and certain types of ammunition which cause unnecessary suffering are outlawed.
