Day break is an older mod... existing in per-alpha form back in the L4D1 era... Does it stand the test of time however?...

- Muddy and "amateurish" visuals...

Day Break is a good map... don't get me wrong... but it rubs me the wrong way...
The visuals and brush work in general... just looks very amateurish... With some areas looking like LEGO buildings... and some areas just looking plain lazy or bad... Visual quirks aside... the settings are fairly unique and interesting...
Gameplay however... it is overall difficult... and while most of it feels like a fair difficult... some areas are exceedingly frustrating to deal with... leading to some irritating encounters... and the finale... I know I have talked about Scavenge finales before... but this an example of a bad one...
A Scavenge finale needs a few thing in order to make it good and enjoyable...
1. The majority of the cans must be in groups...
2. The spaces between can and can-point must be in extreme varied lengths...
3. The can-point can not be hard to get to, or above the cans...
4. The single player limit needs to be drastically lower than the multiplayer limit...
Scavenge finales can be a great thing... but they are very fragile... and one wrong step can ruin the entire experience... giving the player no choice for risk and reward... no alternative strategies... forcing them to baby the cans upwards to the goal... not a good way to make a scavenge finale...
It is still a good campaign... not the best, but far from the average... if that makes any sense...
