Campaign Description...
“Hi everybody. Since a time I´ve been interested on how valve´s engine works, I have made a campaign to improve my skills and also to show my abilities for fun and professional purposes. The idea came´s to my head from “chose your Adventure” book´s and also inspired on “Out run” game, I wanted to make a different mod, a mod where everybody choose his own path, simply, by choosing left or right, and making an original adventure for every player. I called the campaign “left or right” I don´t know why… ^^ ”

Left or Right is an interesting experience... and whether or not that is a good thing... is actually debatable for once...

- Confusing and nonsensical “Story”...

Gameplay
+ One of a kind gimmick...
- Low supply density...
- Extreme difficulty spikes...
- Unclear instructions in some areas...
- Lacks any proper player leading...
- So much confusing and bad level design...

/ Minimal studdering...
+ No apparent crashes or conflicts...
- Not well optimized...

- Extreme difficulty spikes...
+ Three finales to choose from...
- None of the three are well though out...
- Aircraft carrier is confusing...
- Bridge is ludicrously hard...
- Courtyard is far too easy...

Final Verdict
Neutral

Left or Right is an experience... It's gimmick truly one of a kind... (The only other map I know did this was speedboost's “Revenge”... and not only was 75% of his work just stolen maps... but the paths were the same level... just one flooded the other not...)

LoR is not without problems... and I mean a lot of problems... And all of these problems can and does stem from one major problem... It tried to do a bit of everything... and fails at all of it... becoming a jack of all trades, but a master of one...

For custom assets... The music is varying... either helping or hurting the scene... by either being out of place... or recorded with a sock... Some of the models look nice, but I can guarantee those were from another source game... especially if he couldn't make a blimp texture that didn't have a whit outline...

General looks have that mediocre feel that many lower maps have... Being good enough to past... but far from great, or even good...

Story... I guess we can call it that... already doesn't make that much sense... but it also changes depending on the route you took... since apparently four people go left instead of right means there will be no nuke... or going one way instead of another means you die lore-wise...

Now lets talk gameplay... The jack of trades comes in here as well... Doing everything he could think of... and none of it necessarily being good...

Where to go is more often than not never highlighted too you... all kind of deadends from how the maps “used” to be way back when (i.e. the bunker actually being the end of the chapter...) There is only ever supplies to sustain two people... if you are lucky... Level design is confusing, the difficulty spikes are so high they leave the fucking chart... And then there are the finales...

Having three possible endings is a cool gimmick... I will give it that...
HOWEVER... None of the three are necessarily “good”...
The Aircraft Carrier starts off as a scavenge hunt without a map or a clue... requiring you to walk into a wall that doesn’t look like a door at all... and find a button... It gets better afterwards... but that is a rough start...
The courtyard is the easiest by far... Giving you a very defensible area to hold... and of course the bots don't want to get into the rescue vehicle... it comes standard with this quality of map...
The bridge... It is bad enough the nav is terrible and the bots can not help you past a certain point... but spawning a tank at the top of the cliff once you are at the top... that is just evil...

And even with all this shitting on the mod... I still give it a “Neutral” rating... Why you ask?...
Because while there is really only one pro in a sea of cons... It is one hell of a pro... The branching paths is truly one of a kind... and it does make playing the map more enjoyable that you would think... plus the bad design it that kind of retro cheesy-ass design that used to be standrad...

I can't recommend it... but I do believe the gimmick is good enough to carry everything bad with the mod on its back... and still get to the finish line...
