For version 1:
When he jumps to the middle, he'll do the AOE attack. When he's jumping to the side, it's usually followed by a single fireball you can deflect or jump.

For version 2:
His fireballs cause a small flame to linger on the ground. His creeping death attack fills the entire middle section, get a running jump to dodge it or bounce off of the adds. The attacks from the boss speed up the closer it gets to death. Don't underestimate your downward jumping attack. It can keep you bouncing out of harm during the last half of the boss fight.
