The 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment is one of only two TA units that come under the umbrella of 16 Air Assault Brigade - the Army's very high-readiness force

They have been training in Cyprus ahead of a busy year of operations, conducting a live firing exercise that has part of a contingency training package looking beyond Operation Herrick to unforeseen conflicts in the future.

Whilst still supporting the main effort in Afghanistan, this year will also see the TA unit involved in Op Olympic later this year, as well as deploying to Africa for a third time to train the Ugandan Peoples Defence Force, who are helping to bring stability to Somalia.
