Kai Tak International Airport was the international airport of Hong Kong from 1925 until 1998 then replaced by the Chek Lap Kok International Airport.
Kai Tak was located on the east side of Kowloon Bay in Kowloon. Famous for the difficult approach procedures for Runway 13, surrounded on two side by hills reaching an elevation of 2,000 ft (610 m) and often lashed by strong winds. Over time, the area around the airport, especially to the north, had undergone a vast process of urbanization, so that the airport had gradually found itself closed in the middle of an endless forest of buildings, even of considerable size.
