Dark Grim Mariupolis (Xbox Series X) (Gameplay Walkthrough - Part 3) The Black Chrysanthemum
Check out part 3 of my gameplay walkthrough featuring the indie game Dark Grim Mariupolis! This game released on the Xbox One on October 9th, 2020. It was developed Team Mariupolis and published by Xitilon.
In this video, Thor heads to gather some information regarding the murder from Sergio and is asked to get him a drink from the Warlock called the Black Chrysanthemum.
This game is reminiscent of an old-school point-and-click adventure game where you play as Thor: a detective that has to suddenly solve a murder after some strange occurrences within Mariupolis. The world and the art style are probably both the biggest draw here as they really do stand out. The world is comprised of so many different elements and genres: noir, Greek mythology, magic, mysticism and futuristic architecture. Both the world and the art draws you in and entices you to learn about its backstory. Unfortunately, the game doesn't do a good job of really diving into it and most of the dialogue doesn't really translate well so most of the time you might actually end up confused. The story and puzzles in the game are also a bit muddy. The story can sometimes be a little all over the place and, unfortunately, doesn't really know how to lead you to your next destination while the puzzles are probably the most absurd I've ever seen in a game. Pretty much every major puzzle stumped me to the point that I had no choice but to look up the solution.
The controls are easy enough given the genre of this game, however, the inventory system and the hint system in this game are practically useless. The hint system is essentially the fish you find during the prologue, however, when you try to use it the fish just spouts random and useless information. As for the inventory system: it has a simple layout, however, the game doesn't do a great job of telling you which items should be used in what situations (and most of the time it's not really obvious). At the end of the game I found it to be a little frustrating at times due to some of the negatives it has, however, the world and parts of the story were interesting enough to keep my attention. It was also only about 2 hours long so it didn't overstay its welcome and it was also another fairly easy achievement game (with 3,000 GS).
