Dark Lord (ダークロード) is a tactical role-playing game developed by Data East and released in 1991 for the Nintendo Famicom.
This game received two sequels on the Super Famicom, Wizap! Ankoku no Oh and Dark Law: Meaning of Death, both of which were developed by SAS Sakata and ASCII without Data East's involvement.
1. The Creation of Edda
Demi-Humans... Beings known as Demi-Humans are beastly human beings, cursed with evil souls.
A long time ago, the world was kept at peace after the god of light, Alphas, defeated his subordinate god, Ragmeira. Angered, Alphas shattered their ambitions and sealed them deep underground. In the 5th century, King Ishtar, who feared the resurrection of demi-humans, made a seal to show Alphas. The 4th silver seal was in Palance. As long as it was preserved, the appearance of demi-human heads could be sealed off, and as a result, the activities of demi-humans and the evil gods who wished for their resurrection seemed to have calmed down.
2. A New Ordeal
In the late 5th century, the king receives a surprising report from a bishop. It is said that the Evil God Ragmeira will break the seal, eliminate Alphas, and regenerate into this world. And the earliest Alphas notice states:
"Hide my power somewhere. Take the power of the Guided Ones and keep the seal until the light is restored!"
6th century. Under the reign of Ishtar VI, peace prevailed. However, near sleep, the following strange incident occurred. Silverware in the city suddenly disappeared, and soldiers who went to the temple of the evil god disappeared! Furthermore, livestock were found dead after being drained of blood! It's the work of demi-humans! The shock was wrapped in anxiety. The King of Ishtar finally shouldered the "adventurer".
And now you have opened the door to adventure.
At the start of the game the player can create a party of five adventurers, being able to set their gender and class (fighter or wizard). After creating the character and upon leveling up during the game the player can distribute points among various attributes (Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, Vitality, Defense, Agility and Divinity). The player party during the game uses only three characters, with the other two being kept as reserves.
The game's progression is done through a scenario system. The main town where the player starts serves a hub, where the player can access shops to buy weapons and items, as well as other facilities were the player can talk with various NPCs in order to receive missions. Once a mission is accepted the player can leave the town, being transported automatically to the mission scenario. Scenarios work like regular dungeons, with the player party exploring the location and fighting monsters. Battles are turn-based, utilizing a simple tactical system with both the party members and enemies moving on the map and taking turns doing their actions.
