Dark Souls 3 is an RPG game with a deliberately ambiguous storyline, and some punishing enemies and environments to traverse along our journey.

If one completes Siegward of Catarina's questline, he shows up alongside you when you enter the boss room, and helps you out in beating Yhorm. If you are doing it solo, the main way to damage the boss, is to pick up the Storm Ruler to the left of Yhorm's throne, then use its weapon art on him. Deals like 20% of his max health, from what I remember.

A 2 minute bossfight. If you skip the cutscene, that is.
