Dark Souls II (SL1/+0) - Part 1: Forest of Fallen Giants, Dragonrider, and No Man's Wharf
No I'm not doing CoC, yes I'm using flynn's ring. Yes I know I did this in CoC w/o Flynn's ring before, but that was only the boss fights, this is the whole game. I dont really feel like I can say I beat DS2 without leveling or weapon upgrades if I only did the boss fights in isolation. Areas, runbacks, getting your gear, farming if needed, all that is part of the game and if I didn't do or record that, I don't really feel I beat the game. In my mind, my boss fight only runs are more just "proof of concept" things, it's just messing around with the bosses, but I don't think of them as real runs in that real sense. That said, you can do a lot cooler and crazier stuff when working with just bosses, but that sort of extreme bosses only stuff isn't super appealing to me. So I wanted to do this playthrough for a couple reasons. First of all, I was curious how it compared to base level sorcerer/dagger only and second of all I did sl1 +0 weapons as a full playthrough in all the other three souls games (demon's, 1, and 3) so doing it in 2 only made sense. While I did strip off the CoC and Flynnless rules, I did adhere to all the other rules of conduct my bosses only version adhered to, infact I added one thing which was no non-estus healing, in the bosses only version we tend to use elizabeth mushrooms against the smelter demons, in this run I didn't even use lifegems against them, I just had to play near perfect (or in the case of blue smelter literally perfect) since my estus was used mostly by the aura damage and the aura damage made it so I almost never had enough HP to take a hit.
As for the run itself, the start is pretty typical. I'm SL 1, but for right now that's not too important and same for my +0 weapon, not a huge deal right now since the early game is meant for such low stats.
