Data Streaming in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 is... a Bit Weird
The title doesn't describe much, but to be honest, there's not much I can put in the title that explains what I mean.
Essentially, on the Car Selection screen, it keeps the car that you're looking at cached into memory until the next car is loaded. This helps massively if the game has a hard time trying to load up the next model or you're scrolling through all the cars. Of course, the DVD is formatted quite intelligently to where loading times on a car really aren't that long (around 1 to 5 seconds depending on how far the car is into the list, and for any game that's not bad at all).
Here I am demonstrating how the game keeps the model loaded into memory using the Ford Crown Victoria, going pretty far into the car list without making the game actually load the next model into memory. And it also does this with the added strain of having to stream music into RAM, too!
