In a surprising reveal during a 1990 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Full House star Dave Coulier shared an unexpected chapter of his career: he once served as a voice double for the legendary comedian Richard Pryor.

“Richard Pryor has such a recognizable voice,” Coulier explained before dropping the bombshell that he dubbed over Pryor in the 1987 film Critical Condition. Since Pryor famously refused to return for ADR (automated dialogue replacement, or "looping"), someone had to clean up the dialogue for television—and that someone was Coulier. “I actually did Richard Pryor’s voice,” he said. “It was real weird because no one knew it was me… this guy with blonde hair and this face.”

Known to fans as the lovable Joey Gladstone, Coulier's talent for impressions extended far beyond just comedic bits. On the show, he went on to perform dead-on renditions of Scooby-Doo and Popeye, much to the delight of the audience. His Popeye impression even had him playfully saying, “Oh gosh, how embarrassing… well, all right, now that I’m into it.”

While many know him for his family-friendly antics, Dave Coulier’s behind-the-scenes vocal work proves he’s always had range—sometimes even channeling one of comedy’s greatest voices.
