David is the leader of the Cannibals, a group of survivors in the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us who are driven to a state of survival so brutal that they will do whatever it takes to stay alive.

David himself is characterized by his calm demeanor that can flip completely at the slightest provocation. His calculated and complex intentions seem to justify his actions creating a character so complex that at times you feel compelled to sympathize with this clearly deranged and tortured human being.

Entering into the mindset of characters is always a challenge but with David, I truly felt a constant back and forth battle between approaching the character in a non-judgmental way and seeing his clear disregard for Ellie’s life, a character I had already come to love. Mastering the balance between his calm and psychotic voice switches was an incredible learning experience.

Naughty Dog Inc. crafted a story that truly didn’t have characters that fit into the roles of heroes or villains and in the process created one of the most complex and layered antagonists the industry has ever seen.

Neil Druckmann wrote David into existence and in doing so with such prowess and honesty created a character that stands head and shoulders amongst the most intriguing characters of all time. With Nolan North at the helm of the character, we received an unforgettable performance with undeniable nuances.
