0Most of you don’t know much about me before 2016.
I was living a life of comfort and conformity that was turning me into a homophobic bully and a misogynistic, hate-fueled bigot.
This was furthered by most of the churches I was a part of that spoke messages of “A woman has a particular role. She must stick to that” to “Homosexuals are going to hell” and I often found myself questioning these ideals but turned a blind eye out of fear of losing a source of stability and security.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still an ardent believer in Christ but less of a believer in Christianity.
It was at this time, that I found myself in the lives of an empowered young homosexual woman who was both fearless and terrified at the same time and a man who had lost everything and now lives every day hoping to die. The journey that follows is one of love and hope that transformed me into the man I am today.
A man who no longer bases his life on the values of judgment and hate but rather on love towards everyone. A person who fights for securing equal rights for everyone, regardless of whether their opinions match my own: an Ally.
The impact that Ashely Johnson and Troy Baker created through their art form made me realize that I want to do for others what they did for me for the rest of my life.
It is with incredible thankfulness to @druckmann who told a story that no one else would and to everyone @naughty_dog_inc who realized that story through this masterpiece of creative storytelling in video games, that I present to you all: my humble and deeply personal rendition of Joel from The Last of Us.
