[Day 50] Act 5: Running The Threshold Gauntlet || Also, Decided to Learn How to Play the Game.
We're on Day 50 (FIFTY) and I finally decided to learn how to play this game. I felt like in the beginning I did know how to play this game. There weren't many choices and it was good. Mid game it got harder, more choices, more possible class dips, and now I had to start paying attention to AC (hello Playful Darkness in Act 3!). End game? Now, I finally decided to figure out what these numbers on my screen meant, what other mob attributes did I need to pay attention to, etc...
Things I learned:
* AC and Touch AC are important.
If the mob's AC is too high for physical damage dealers to hit, you're better off targeting a mob that they CAN hit. Even if that means killing a non-high priority target.
* Touch AC is usually a lot lower than AC which means touch attacks are king. aka Ember and her Hellfire Rays. How do you tell if it's a touch attack? I didn't find an easy solution other than reading the spell description. Who knew reading comprehension was so important? hehe
* (17 vs 20) = Miss. It's what you rolled vs what you needed to roll to make the hit. In the dialog box, if you hover the miss it'll break it down. Attack Result has to be equal or greater than Target's Armor Class to land a hit. If the difference is too far off, meaning you need a 20, then most likely your casters will have to deal with that mob using touch attacks. (Touch AC is usually a lot lower than AC). BTW, rolling a 20 is an automatic hit even tho it doesn't close the gap between Attack Result and Target's Armor Class.
* Greater Heroism buffs will saves, but Heroic Invocation does not. So, while it's convenient to cast Heroic Invocation because it's communal. Greater Heroism is actually better for Woljif, but I put it on everyone just for fun.
* Woljif kept turning against me so I had to re-assess what to do with him. Turns out his will save needed buffing. Turns out he was wearing a neck piece that was MINUS FOUR to will save O.o. So, we switched out the neck piece AND cast Greater Heroism on him and he went from will save 10 to 18!! Now, we're playing the game :D
* Placing melee by the caster that I thought was my top priority because it was the most dangerous was not a good idea. None of the melee could hit it unless they rolled a 20. So, the physical damage dealers took care of the Balor. While Ember focused on the caster.
The game gets so laggy it becomes unplayable and frustrating :(
I wasn't sure if Deny Death was useful since I have Death's Door on and could raise them mid battle. BUT I found a benefit... After the battle is over I don't need to rebuff!! Less clicks = winning :D
Next evening stream we're on to the final fight! See you then!
