Days of Thunder - NES (1990)
0Retro racing titles are sort of a thing I can't seem to avoid. One day, I just became interested in seeing how racing titles evolved. As a child, I really felt that all racing games looked and played the same. I just never got interested until some of the Test Drive sequels. Playing through old titles, I've sort of made it a point to check them out. I was mostly right, but I have been wrong a few times and there are some really playable titles out there that are actually...fun.
This isn't one of them.
Sort of based on the movie?, Days of Thunder just doesn't have anything interesting to offer except for a very distinct look. It really does look like this isn't a title that belongs on the NES, but it plays awful. I'm not even positive there are brakes in this game. I cannot avoid that wall no matter what I do. And while I am no NASCAR fan, the description of "you drive in a circle endlessly" really hits home here.
