DBPG: The Simpsons Arcade Game Review
46Welcome one and all to our month-long retrospective on one of our favorite shows, the Simpsons. There are a ton of reasons to talk about these games, but there is actually a special event coming up soon. Starting on August 21, FXX will be having 12 day marathon of EVERY SINGLE SIMPSONS EPISODE. That is insane.
To celebrate the popularity of this cultural icon, we are going to do our own marathon. We are going to review every Simpsons game that we can get our hands on, in a month long marathon of reviews where we will be reviewing games almost daily. To start, we are going to start with one of the most popular Simpsons games ever, the classic arcade game by Konami. This also happens to be the first Simpsons game ever. It was, obviously, released first for the arcade, and was later ported to MS-DOS, the Commodore 64, and to XBOX LIVE and PSN.
SnapShot(9)Released in 1991, this game was both developed and published by Konami. Konami had a ton of success before in the arcade beat em up genre, mainly thanks to their games in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. The arcade cabinet was made for four players, as each player controlled either Homer, Marge, Lisa, or Bart. The objective of the game was to rescue Maggie from Mr. Burns and Smithers, since Maggie had traded her pacifier for a precious diamond. Look, the plot is pretty terrible, but is about as good as any episode from after season 12.
