Out of nowhere, here comes another speedrun. As of this very moment, if this run gets accepted, it should be 4th place on the leaderboard. Important note: I added the splits and timed the run in post AFTER I had this recording. Honestly I figured this was more convenient for me, but there's any issue with that, do let me know. My previous runs did have the splits on during the run, for reference.

I used to have the world record in VT1 for about 9 months, three years ago. I got the first Sub 3 but I didn't end up submitting it... not for the proudest of reasons, really. This game can be a really frustrating game to run and getting your runs approved can be a little bureaucratic for someone who's just an occasional runner like me. Today, I felt randomly inspired and decided to implement some of the strategies that people have developed over the years into a run of my own, thus, I have this 2'44"70 to show for for the moment. Yes, despite having played this game my entire life, for a moment back when I speedran this game for a while I genuinely forgot King existed.

Over 10 seconds can be saved just from the last stage alone, however, whether your opponent returns the ball or not genuinely doesn't feel like it's in your control too much (using this strat, at least). Add that with minor optimisations and splitting hairs over loading times, I feel like 15 seconds could easily be chopped off the run. I switched emulators from NullDC to Demul (thank god) so the game looks better and runs more loyal to original hardware now. I'll be honest: I seriously cannot tell the difference between this and original hardware and I can be pretty picky about that stuff. MAYBE emulator loads faster, but that's a given. I don't think it's a dealbreaker, considering the PC version is allowed and that probably loads fastest of all.
