Rising Squall is a new campaign for the F/A-18C Hornet Module for DCS World developed by Inverted Studio. Whereas most DCS campaigns in the past have been based on historical contexts focused in realism, Inverted Studio takes a less realistic and more action-oriented approach. Clearly inspired by the Ace Combat series, Rising Squall features an action-packed campaign that features exciting missions, background music from Keiki Kobayashi, in-mission cutscenes, and complete mission voiceovers in English. Overall, this is a fun campaign to fly, and it is an interesting new approach for DCS campaigns, especially new players.
In the second mission taking place 13 months prior to Mission 0, Ming (player) flies his first combat sortie with Aegis squadron. The flight is tasked with protecting oil drilling platforms from enemy threats. Although it should have been a routine patrol, the enemy insurgents send drones armed with hellfires to target the oil rigs. What makes drones challenging to shoot down, although they cannot maneuver like a real pilot, is their small size since it makes them difficult to spot.
