The Squid Squad is once again up to the usual antics testing out new ground attack techniques. Particularly, we were interested in how skip bombing is modeled in IL-2. We tried various approaches to see which weapons were most effective on ships. Currently, it seems the larger bombs (500lb and above) seem to work the best when skip bombing against ships. The smaller bombs also seem to work, but they do less damage. Also, when using the Ju-88, the small bomblets do not release all at once, so about 1/2 of them are wasted on the run-in approach. The small bombs would probably better be used in a dive bombing approach rather than trying to skip them. We also tried crashing planes into the ships to see if that would have any desirable effect.
