DDLC Mod | Doki Doki Spark of Hope! | LIVE Playthrough! (Part 1)
4At your request, I present to you; my playthrough of Doki Doki: Spark of Hope. This has been a long time coming, as some of you long time viewers might know. This is a mod I have known about for years, and have been asked to play on a number of occasions, but I never did, despite the requests, because it's a mod I've always been very apathetic about, which I will elaborate on in the description here, though I understand why a lot of you would think it would be right up my alley. Is there truly something to this mod that I just didn't see at first glance? Only one way to find out!
I'll elaborate here on why I've been hesitant to play this mod for so long. I know why you folks requested that I play this mod. It's long, so it's nice and meaty, it's a Monika mod, and you all know how I feel about her, and it's a storyline where we have to smooth things over with a club that remembers the events of the base game. It all sounds great! What's not to like? Well, when I was first getting into mods for this game, I actually watched a bit of Ronald's playthrough for this mod, (RonaldMcOnePunch, for the uninitiated,) and I stopped after the second episode, because the story and the writing just weren't grabbing me. I thought the pacing was off, the way the story was being handled just didn't impress me, and the writing was never able to get me invested in what was happening, so I dropped it and went on to other mods.
After looking into the premise for tonight's stream, though, and seeing that there was supposed to be a remake for this mod, I can understand what people see in this mod. The premise for Spark of Hope! is undoubtedly one that I like, and I do hope that the author does come back to the project once things get straightened out in their life, but as it stands right now, I'm going to judge this mod as I would any other, on its own merits, because this is the version that I played as of the time of this stream's airing, so I want my critiques and compliments directed at it to reflect that. Okay? Okay. I hope you enjoy regardless of my stance on this mod, because I really do want to be surprised, I want my cynicism to be proven wrong. I want to find out what it is about this mod that you all who asked for it see in it that I'm not.
