These new fleet owned by DDOT are the 2017 NFI XD40s delivered August of 2017 to serve as replacements of the older D40LF units that were destroyed at the Shoemaker terminal fire back in mid-January 2017. Bus #1706 is one of the 1st new buses to operate on its first day on route 45 Seven Mile heading eastbound to Moross & Mack. This is also one of the buses in the series to NOT be equipped with the Cummins ISL9 engine; instead, it receives the Cummins L9 diesel engine instead. These buses were delivered the same year that suburban SMART's 2017 Gillig BRT diesel units were.
