♫DEAD END, Stage 4 (Rusty) SNES Arrangement - NintendoComplete
This is an arrangement of Masahiro Kajiwara's "Dead End," the stage four BGM from C Lab's 1993 PC98 game Rusty. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES console.
Because most of Kajihara's work is centered around games for the PC98, his name isn't widely recognized outside of Japan. For anyone that appreciates old-school game music, though, you aren't going to find much better in terms of composition or technical wizardry. The magic he wrought from the PC98's FM synth with his PMD driver really needs to be heard to be believed. Rusty, the Princess Makers, Valis 2, Faust... they're all outstanding showcases of 90s chiptune skill. (Seriously, go look his stuff up!)
If you aren't familiar with Rusty, it's basically Castlevania, but with boobs. Sounds like the sort of game that should just print money, right? The game is actually pretty sweet, and it doesn't fall too far short of its inspiration. That goes for the soundtrack, as well.
That's about it. I really liked the track, so I decided to recreate it on the SNES. There are a lot of saw waves and organs, which might be nice if you are a fan of saw waves and/or organs.
Thanks for listening!
