Good lord did I miss this girl. Alpha comes from DOA2, where she openly antagonizes/teases Kasumi during her capture by DOATEC over the fact that she wants big bro Hayate all to herself. In DOAD, however, she eventually transitions towards 'protecting daddy Donovan' during the events of DOA3 before becoming the DNA base of what would eventually become Alpha-152, the notorious oeverpowered Jell-O clone that caused many a thrown controller ever since the launch of the Xbox 360.
Anyways, while she's always TECHNICALLY playable in DOA2, it was mainly just as a "costume" option for normal Kasumi since there was no clear-cut difference when you fought her in story mode. In THIS game however, Team Ninja decided to make Alpha into "a real girl" in a way of speaking. Since DOAD is based off of a remixed version of DOA4, normal Kasumi plays very similar to that game, along with keeping her now-current DOA3-DOA6 Japanese voice actress (Houko Kuwashima). Alpha however plays like DOA2U Kasumi specifically (aka Classic Kasumi) and is voiced in Japanese by her original DOA1/DOA2 actress (Sakura Tange), whom had returned from a voice acting retirement back in 2000. While I use both on the regular, DOAD is the only game where I feel I can truly appreciate Alpha as her own "thing" (as Phase-4 in DOA5/DOA6 is also her own "character" moveset & personality wise, and basically a 'super-mode' concept of what an 'alternate Kasumi' is). So here's an hour video of some "Playtime" with Kasumi Alpha in all the Survival mode courses for funsies/old-times sake. I may one day do the entire True Fighter route for completionism sake in another video.
