Dead Space 2 | Is It Worth It?
Dead Space 2 is a 2011 third-person “survival horror” video game developed by the unfortunately now-defunct Visceral Games and published by the unfortunately still kicking Electronic Arts. It was a BAFTA nominee for its audio and DICE award nominee for… action game of the year, which is an odd thing to say out of context for a horror game, but this is Dead Space, so… It’s not really surprising. Before any awards though, was the advertising. And man, of all the advertising that EA has ever put out for a game, this is definitely some of them.
EA, I know your attempts to get the general public riled up about your titles failed when the 2009 E3 protests against Dante’s Inferno were revealed to be entirely marketing, but come on. “Your mom hates this”? Your trying too hard to be edgy, plus my mom loves these games.
Despite this… odd marketing choice, Dead Space 2 was praised by critics, even charting at number 13 on metacritic for its release year, which is insane when you consider how stacked 2011 actually was: Skyrim, Arkham City, Portal 2, Mass Effect 2, LA Noire, Modern Warfare 3, Dark Souls. But is that spot deserved? Should Isaac Clarke have stayed asleep after the events onboard the USG Ishmura?
